Shafts and Grooves

Shaft and Groove work in a similar manner. The difference is that shafts are created material and grooves are removed material.

The dialogs are divided into Limits, Profile, and Axis Selection.

Limits define the angles that the shaft or groove is created between. The Profile area allows you to select a profile to create a shaft or groove. You can use the Sketcher icon in the dialog to edit existing profiles or create a new sketch on a face or plane.

Axis Selection allows you to pick the axis about which the profile revolves. CATIA automatically selects an axis if one exists in the sketch. If no axis is present, you can pick one in the Graphics window. CATIA lets you pick an edge, reference line, sketch line, or coordinate axis.

Associativity
The ability to rapidly change models is enabled by associativity. Associativity refers to the fact that when you change a parameter, any associated entities automatically update. You already know that when you edit the dimensions in your sketch, the sketch geometry automatically updates. In addition, if you edit a sketch that supports a sketch-based feature, the feature automatically updates. This update occurs because, in each case, the two elements are associated to one another.
